Coronavirus: Tension in Aro as TC Chairman confronts stubborn London returnee.

There was tension in Arochukwu on Saturday following a confrontation between the TC Chairman, Mazi Emmanuel Kanu, and a lady who recently returned from London.

Mrs. Mabel (surname withheld) reportedly returned from London and arrived in Aro on March 25, and allegedly sneaked into Amuvi – her home village – in a manner that aroused the suspicion of the villagers.

It was learned that the Transition Committee Chairman, while on an enlightenment campaign on the coronavirus pandemic, got a tip off from some concerned Amuvi residents regarding the lady.

Pronto, the TC Chair mobilized a rapid response team of health officials of the council supported by law enforcement personnel.

They were said to have reported to Eze Ogo Amuvi, Mazi Okoroji, who confirmed that they had indeed banned the affected family from interacting with the rest of the village until the lady’s coronavirus status is ascertained.

It was further learned that the team proceeded to the lady’s house only to be confronted by a stiff resistance from her.

The team reportedly impressed it on her of the absolute need to self-isolate for a period of 14 days.

As at press time, the council officials were making efforts to communicate the situation to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)
