“His Wife Puts Sleeping Pills Into His Food” – Late Mohbad’s Dad Tells Court

 

In a testimony presented on Wednesday, October 25th, Joseph Aloba, the father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, professionally known as Mohbad, conveyed to the coroner's court in Lagos his reservations regarding his deceased son's spouse, Wunmi.

Mr. Aloba provided his account during the coroner's inquest into the untimely demise of his son. He apprised Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi, the Coroner, of the close relationship he shared with his son, spanning a duration of 18 years. Mr. Aloba recounted how Mohbad had left home at a certain age to reside with Marlian record label's proprietor, Naira Marley, concurrently supporting the latter while pursuing his own musical career.

In his testimony, Mr. Aloba expressed his unfamiliarity with the precise residence where his late son cohabited with Naira Marley. Additionally, he disclosed that his late son's real estate holdings were entrusted to his mother-in-law. He further mentioned that his son frequently apprised him of assets held by his wife and her family.

Mr. Aloba contended that Mohbad's spouse had, on occasion, surreptitiously administered sleeping pills in his food. He also alleged that she had engaged in amorous relations with another signee. In his words, "I shared 18 years together with my son, and he had no record of any terminal disease. I only took him to a chemist when he was 16 for treatment of rashes. I don't trust his wife. My son told me she always put sleeping pills in his noodles and went to another room to sleep with another signee in the same house. Mohbad made efforts to reconcile me with his mother."

Furthermore, Mr. Aloba testified that Mohbad, subsequent to reconciling with his mother, had purchased an automobile for him.
