Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State has made a remarkable statement, expressing his willingness to step down from his office in the interest of peace. The political turmoil between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has been a persistent issue.
Despite efforts by President Bola Tinubu to mediate, the crisis has endured. In an interview with AIT, Governor Fubara stated, “No sacrifice will be too big for me to pay for the success of this administration. It is not political love or a quest for favor. My genuine concern is for the millions of Rivers people who have sacrificed, and I fear their hopes are being dashed.”
Governor Fubara clarified that his willingness to resign is motivated by a desire for peace in the state. He stressed that his decision is not about personal gain but about the welfare and stability of Rivers State. He also highlighted the importance of leadership maturity, noting his restraint in the face of crisis despite having the power to take actions that could have escalated tensions.
“I am the governor. There are actions I could have taken that would have led to a total crisis, but the ability to exercise restraint in such circumstances is a sign of maturity,” he added.
