Sir Chikwe Udensi, a leader of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and former governorship aspirant in Abia State, has criticized the state government for hastily commissioning the Aba Geometric Power Project. He accused the government of seeking undue credit for the project, which was recently launched by Vice President Kashim Shettima, calling it a bad publicity stunt.
Appearing on the current affairs program "Open Parliament" monitored by ABN TV, Udensi claimed that feedback from Aba residents indicates that there is no power, let alone uninterrupted power supply, despite the project's commissioning. He likened this rushed commissioning to past instances such as the Ajaokuta Steel Company and Dangote Refinery commissionings, which he deemed premature.
Udensi suggested that the state government should have waited until the project was fully operational before commissioning it. He praised former governors of the state, including Orji Uzor Kalu, T.A Orji, and Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, for their support in actualizing the project. Additionally, he disputed claims by the Chairman of Geometric Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, that the project did not receive funding from the Abia state government, insisting that the immediate past Governor Ikpeazu's administration provided substantial funding for the project.
A representative of the Geometric Power Project had earlier urged Aba residents to be patient, stating that efforts were underway to ensure the project's full utilization.
