According to IGBERETV, the Lagos State Police Command has detained a 27-year-old man for allegedly defiling a nine-month-old infant in the state's Railway Ijora Badia area.
A concerned member of the public reported the crime to the Police on Monday at around 10:00 pm, the command spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin said to newsmen in Lagos on March 29, 2023, confirming the arrest.
According to Hundeyin, the suspect allegedly left the flat after the mother had placed the infant on the floor and hurriedly left the property to make a purchase.
The PPRO reported that "the suspect reportedly had sexual interaction with the little baby and fled the scene."
"The baby's 16-year-old mother arrived at the station with the infant, and she was given a medical paperwork so she could take the child to the hospital for emergency care.
But on Tuesday at around 11:15 p.m., detectives from the Ijora Badia Division managed to smoke the culprit out of his hiding place."
The suspect admitted to the crime while being questioned, the official said, adding that both the complainant and suspect have given statements.
